In an early post I had problems with a serious transmission leak, but got that fixed. I forgot to ask what the purpose is of those two holes with split pins on the underside of the bell housing and trans case, and why oil doesn't flow out of them.

I think you're refering to the drain holes with the cotter pin in them. The cotter pin prevents bugs from crawing in while allowing any fluids to drain out if you have a leak. It makes the leak detectable and prevents the clutch from getting flooded by leakink oil from the front tranny seal and/or the engine rear seal. I'm real familiar with the one on the bell housing but I never noticed one in the back of the transmission case, but then I never had the need to look under it.

There are two drain holes Jerry, the rear one is just forward of the front wall of the gearbox in the clutch housing.

Thanks, John. I never had a reason to look for one there. I have split my TO-30 a few times and I recall there was one with a cotter pin in it but don't recall the other one. That's a good sign 'cuz if I did know where it was, it would be because I had a leak!
