Hello all ! I am new to this forum, I just purchased a TO20 that needs a little work and hope ya"ll can help me out. First question I have is about the gas tank, does it mount directly to the the mounts or should there be some kind of spacer/ isolator to creat a gap between engine and tank, the tank seems to get awful hot after running.thanks L.D. Storrs

They do get hot and you can see that the fuel is hot too if you look inside, sometimes. On the TEA series you could get a steel plate that fitted over the top of the engine to the studs holding the valve cover in place, this kept the direct heat from the tank. You could easily make one.
There are no other spacers etc. other than the rubber isolators and plates that Mike mentions.

You should have a rubber mounting pad between the tank and the mounting bracket and one on the top side of the mounting holes of the tank. A piece of 1/8"x 1"x about 8" strap metal will go on top of the upper side of the top pad.It's sort of like a sandwich. I make mine out of rubber flat belt. They are the same size as the strap iron.
