I have a TEA20 -85. I am looking for the serial number of the engine.

I remember reading that it should be on the block between the coil and the starter. I cleaned that area until it gleans. I cleaned the whole block on that side of the engine. I can not find any numbers or letters on the block.

On the other side behind the Zenith carburator is a series of numbers, that do not start with "SC". It starts with "OA123..." (I do not have it written down in front of me right now)

Where should I be looking?

Regards
Boyde

It should be stamped into the block between the oil filler and the coil. It is stamped into a raised "ridge" that has been machined to give a flat surface
It may not be prefixed with SC at all, maybe just S, it will depend on how old the engine is. If you can't find a number in that location it is possible that the engine has had a new Cylinder Block fitted. Who ever did that should have stamped the number in the same location.

Thanks John.

I did clean and inspect that area, but not as diligently as between the coil and the starter.

I did not notice any flat area, but I will focus closer to that area.

Is the number cast in place or was it punched/pressed after casting?

I'll be back where I have the tractor this weekend.

Regards
Boyde
