uneven running at idle

I use a TE20 at work, and after hearing a restored axample run realised that the one I use runs very poorly at low revs. The engine ticks over unevenly and there is a 'poofing' sound from the exhaust - misfire. I have a dwell angle meter, and wondered if anyone knows the correct dwell angle for the tractor. It is a straight pertol with a zenith carb and lucas electrics.
Anyone have any answers??

Well, Talf, I would first check the plugs and points and timing -- maybe a simple ignition tuneup would cure the rough idle and give more power at higher engine speed as well. Might be a chipped or sticking valve or wornout camshaft. Be sure to post back on what you found out. Good luck! Tex
