HAY GUYS I HAVE MY FERGI FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS WAS MOWING LAST WEEK END AND IT BEGAIN TO HAVE A LOW END KNOCK WE PULLED THE MOTOR OUT TO DO A REBUILD AND FOUND THAT 2 OF THE MAINS HAVE CRACKS IN THE BLOCK THE MECH DOING THE WORK SAID THAT THE FRONT PULLY WAS LOOSE AND LET THE CRANK MOVE BACK AND FORTH IT DID HAVE LOTS OF HOURS BUT I DID CHANGE THE OIL OFTEN DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A BLOCK & CRANK OR DO I BUY A SHORT BLOCK? HOW ABOUT SOME ADVICE I LOVE THE TRACTOR BUT WHERE DO YOU STOP AND WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN OUTHER PLACES THAT MAY TELL YOU IF THE TRACTOR IS WORTH SAVING OR PARTING OUT THE SER # IS TO33307 AS FAR AS I CAN TELL

I don't know what part of the country you are located in but furnace brazing can be used to repair almost any block, even when the main bearing webs are cracked. I have seen it done on a Case backhoe with excellent results and my own TO-30 shortblock with the cracks between the cylinders was repaired in this manner. You get a stress relieved and fully machined block in the process and it's competetive in price with a"good block" from a salvage yard. Call around to the local machine shops that repair industrial engines and get a quote for a furnace brazed block and/or a remanufactured engine.You can get them exchange or they can repair your block. If you have to have your tractor "on line" ASAP, the short block remanufactured engine is the fastest way to go and also the most expensive.((around $1500 +). You might want to consider the having someone go over the head while you are at it.( Max about $400-$500.)
It sounds like your TE-20 thrust bearing was totally worn out. Even regular oil changes don't prevent some wear.

Should you put the $'s in it? Well the most it'll cost you is somewhere around (assuming a remanufactured block and rebuilt head) is around $2000 and you do the split and installation (around another $150-$200 for clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing while you have it split) the tractor, if the rest is in pretty good shape, should go another 50 years with good maintenance. What can you buy in the way of a replacement that costs less, you know what you are getting, and is simple enough that it can be maintained by you. Some times the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

thanks jerry good advice i have a call into some shops now for quotes like you said if i bought a diferant tractor who knows i might get the same thing thanks Dale.
