When you move the gear lever to the "S" position it operates the starter switch which is mounted on top of the clutch housing beneath the battery. This switch can be adjusted if necessary and you can buy new ones if it is needed. It is a safety device so you don't run over yourself.

S is the safety starter position. Unless worn you
lift shift lever up slightly and move over-then
into S to engage the starter. I've seen some
disengaged. Chuck
