TE-20, Distributor Cap - threaded plug wires

I am working on a TE-20 whose plug wires are held onto the distributor cap by a threaded cup thingy that slips over the wire. I've never seen plug wires like this before and made the mistake of just yanking the wire out. It appears that someone before me made this mistake too because the brass tabs on the ends of 3 of the wires were still stuck in the holes in the distributor cap. Also, one of the threaded cup thingies is missing. I've tried several auto parts stores for replacement wires (by the way, I'm in Idaho, USA) and no one has seen these kinds of plug wires.

Is there another distributor cap that would fit this distributor that uses non-threaded plug wires? Is there a way to repair the wires (solder the brass tabs back on)? Can I purchase a new threaded cup thingy or do I just need to get a whole new cap and wire set?

Thanks much,
Mike

The guys have given you the correct information. There is no need to solder these leads and washers, just thread the bare end of the HT lead through the washer and the "Acorn nut" (it looks like an acorn) and fan out the wire filaments and just tighten down the acorn nut and that will lock the HT lead in position.

So I didn't ruin the wires after all... That's a relief. That also means I can replace them (if I want) with new wires from anywhere and just cut the ends off. Now I just have one more problem... I am short one acorn nut. Anyone know where I can get a single one without buying the whole cap? I have been entertaining thoughts of making one from a nylon bolt or molding one out of epoxy or something. Any other ideas?

Thanks much for everyone's help! You guys are all GREAT!
Mike

Try advertising for one on here, there will be quite a few who have changed the distributor cap and have the old one hanging around "just in case" you need to say which "acorn" you need though, a short one for the plug leads or the long type for the HT lead from the coil to distributor cap. What is annoying me is that I saw some of these in a bag alongside the cap as spares on some site but I can't remember where it was now, I will have to think about that one.

Mike, Jeff is right the disitributor cap is a Lucas type and Sparex has them. They are listed as Sparex No. S 41169 "Distributor Cap - Threaded Terminals - Lucas"

These were made by Lucus electronics. They are still available. Sparex carries them. I am sure John, or one of the other guys can give you the part number.
