you might not be getting complete combustion yet because the rings arent worn in.did you have the injectors and injection pump checked or reset.the injection timing might be off slightly

Hi Mike

Is it a diesel or gas ?
Smoke is black with gas or fuel smell ?
Smoke is blue with oil smell ?
Smoke is white with anti-freeze smell ?

To long to explain all possibilities

Please give us info
diesel or gas and smoke color and smell if any

Good luck

its diesel
the smoke is a light grey colour - it does not smell of oil or antifreeze. smells of diesel.
the strange thing is that it runs very smothley, at tickover and at mid range revs.??

Thanks for replying hope to hear from you again.

Hi Mike

I agree with previous post it seems to be
combustion problem.

Lets begin by simplest things (just ideas)

How old is the fuel in the tank ?
If older than one year drain and put new fuel

What is the color of the fuel
Must be crystal clear or clear/light blue
If it is yellow (beer like color) it is no good

Disconnect air supply tube at the intake manifold
start engine ..still smokin ? if not air filter is clogged.

How old are the injectors ? Dripping instead of spraying injectors may cause
smoking. You can bring inj to inj/repair/rebuilt
shop they will check for few $ if correct you dont
miss anyting... .if defective a step will be done.
Be careful when reinstalling an bleeding them
do not expose your skin when you loose fittings
wear glove and safety glasses..to avoid high pressure fuel injection in your skin it may be very dangerous.

Is it a vertical exhaust pipe ?
If yes check if kids or somebody dropped strange
bodies inside and/or check for exhaust system
restriction..bent or squeezed pipe and ....

If you find something please let us know
it will be helpfull for all of us.

This is not an expert advice

Just few ideas

Good luck !!!
