Statistics don't lie. Seatbelts in cars and tractors save lives. And Yes, it is possible to die wearing a seatbelt. But why play the long odds with your life?

My ROPS cost $640 plus shipping from Saf-T-Cab in California. The kit included the seat belt, as well as all brackets and hardware. You have to take the fenders off the 8N to install. It took me and my 9yo son about two hours to do the installation. The brackets also include the piece below the axle (but not the pin itself) that your stabilizer bar attaches to.

And the difference between Ford 8N rearaxle and Fergie TE rearaxle is???

In Nova Scotia, Valley Farm Equipment make a really sturdy folding ROPS (folded, gives overall height on the 8N of about 6ft 2in., so it goes in the garage easily. Mounts on fender mounting lugs with Grade 8 bolts (supplied). Price about $(Canadian)1050 which is approx $(US)860. Price includes lap belt. I installed mine with help from a chain hoist and an engine crane.

No matter who makes it, it MUST BE CERTIFIED and TESTED to meet OSHA stds. Otherwize yer life insurance company lawyers will DENY yer family yer death benefits..... ..respectfully, Dell

But Dell brings up a good point do look at your policy. I doubt lack of ROPS would invalidate a police, but having ROPS could reduce a premeium. Either way chack with the right person if aplicable.

There are scattered instances of seatbelts causing injuries or fatalities, but odds are stacked HEAVILY against NOT wearing one.

I don't always wear mine, but I KNOW I should.

i think that is horrible advice. ROPS and FOPS structures save people all the time. If you have a rops/fops.. you must wear a seatbelt to keep you in the safe zone.. otherwise you can be injuried by the rops/fops structure itself.

If you are so concerned about hanging upside down, and alive after your rops / seatbelt saved your life, why not carry a boot knife.. or a knife on your belt.. or duct tape a razorknife to the seatbelt stub.. that way it is right there when you need it... peel the tap off.. slid ethe blade out.. cut the seatbelt.

There are people working at my company that have rolled heavy equipment.. they are all alive thanks to the seatbelt / rops / fops structure. Worst one was when a large 623 scraper pan rolled down a hill.. .. made many revoloutions before it came to rest on its side. it rolled toward the side of the open operatror cabin.

Without a doubt.. the operator would have fallen out of the open cabbin if he had not been wearing a seatbelt... then the 100,000+# machine would have mashed him flat. As it was.. he was just shook up and dirty after the accident.

Good thing he hadn't take your advice.. or he'd very likely be dead right now..
