T035 Tractor Advice

I have been working on my tractor and have come to the conclusion that I may have a ground problem in my wiring but I need some advice. I have voltage reading to everything but the distributor. It turns over but will not start, a few months ago I had it running but it only stayed running for about an hour. After that I've had no spark to plugs. This is a 12 volt system, any advice out there.

What do you mean,"... I have voltage reading to everything but the distributor." I believe your starting system uses a button operated solenoid to activate the starter and a separate key switch to close the ignition circuit.(I am not all that familiar with the TO-35 But the ignitions systems are not that terribley different.) When the ignition switch is turned on, you should have 12 volts to both sides of the ignition switch and the battery side of the coil. Check these terminals with your volt meter and verify this. Take off the distributor cap and crank the engine over until the breaker points are closed and remeasure the voltages. You should still have near the same voltages. Check the distributor side of the coil and get a voltage reading. It should be significantly lower than the battery side, like a half a volt or less. Check the hot side of the points for voltage also. It should be near zero. Write down the results and post them back here. If you don't see these voltages back track to where you last saw the correct voltage. The component between the last good reading and the bad reading is the culprit. It could be a bad key switch, a broken wire, a poor connection, etc. If all these readings look right check your points for corrosion and the proper point gap. Also make sure that you have a true 12V coil, not the one that needs a current limiting resistor.
Is your 12 V system original (some of the TO-35's had 12 volt systems from the factory as I understand it.) Is there a reisitor between the key switch and the coil? If so, you need to include that in the voltage checks. Do these check systematically and get back here with the results so we can help you.

As Jerry states above,Please Check your Key Switch.as this what went bad in my TO-35 some years back. The results were the same as you are having with your tractor,until I replaced swith. Gregg/Ohio

I did some troubleshooting with my voltmeter and found out that the coil was the culprit. It was grounding out within the unit itself so I replaced it and checked my point gap, the tractor fired right up. Thanks for your advice, it really helped me solve this problem.
