TE20 Regulator

I have a Lucas generator on my TE20 but it appears it has a Delco regulator. Will it work with the Lucas generator. Also, can't get the ampmeter to register. The generator is putting out juice. It has no discharge light so its been wired around. Read in the service manual that the ampmeter won't work if its wired in place of the light. Anyone been here or have suggestions.

I have a similiar situation on my TE-20. I have a generator of unknown origin and a regulator from an automobile. If your system is still the 6 volt positive ground, then you can use the IT manual wiring diagram for your tractor. If you don't have one available, here's a quick wiring explanation. First, verify that the regulator is a 6 volt positive ground type. It won't work in your system otherwise. Next, run the field wire from the generator to the regulator. Then the armature wire from the generator is run to the "A" or "G" terminal on the regulator depending on how yours is marked. This is the basic setup for any system. Now, from the regulator the "B" terminal has a heavy wire (at least 10 ga.) that goes to the negative side of the ammeter and then from the positive side to the terminal on the starter switch that the negative battery cable attaches(remember Positive ground). The small dash light is wired from the "A" or "G" terminal to the ignition switch terminal that has the coil wire on it. Some regulators have a load or "L" terminal that a wire from it to the ignition / light switch power in terminal (usually labeled "bat") is attached. As a final step make sure the generator and the regualator are grounded. This may require a separate wire to a body ground. To polorize the system, carefully use a jumper wire to touch the "A" or "G" terminal to the "B" terminal. It just takes a momentary touch. DO NOT TOUCH THE "F" OR FIELD TERMINAL AS A FRIED REGULATOR WILL BE THE RESULT. Good luck and hope you get her charging again.
