TO-20 overbore sleeve sizes

Do the different sizes of piston/sleeve overbore kits all fit in the orginal block (just thinner sleeve walls) or are they meant for blocks that have been bored with larger cylinder holes? When would I want to use a larger than standard size piston/sleeve? Is it just for increased power or are there actually cases where the cast block has been damaged such that reboring can fix it?

Thanks much,
Mike

You are correct. I think that I have seen bores up to 3 5/16 (std is 3 3/16)for the TO20 and bores to 3 3/8 (std is 3 1/4)for the TO30. I think that that changes the TO20 from about 120 to 129 cubic inches and the TO30 from 129 to 139 cubic inches giving each about 2 or 3 more horsepower than standard.

Jim & John are exactly right. Since the Continental engines are wet sleeves, it would be really tough to overbore a damaged block to accept oversized OD sleeves, maybe impossible. They are not like Ford N blocks.

Sleeve sets you see on this site, and most other web sites are Tisco "super power" overbore sets. Most places don't even stock standard bore sleeves. The only reason I could see to stick with standard bore sleeves is if you are only replacing one damaged sleeve/piston, and not all four. But even then, I have heard of guys that replaced one or two sleeves with overbore sleeves and the rest were stock, with no apparent running problems.

I installed the Tisco overbore sleeve/pistons in my TO-20. I was quite happy with the quality and fit. The sleeve/piston sets come with new Orings, piston rings, and pins if memory serves me right. The install is quite easy, don't need to modify anything, just install normally.

Its only the bore of the sleeve that is touched, not the outside so the new sleeves will go straight into the block. (Just thinner sleeve walls)
