TO 30air cleaner popping

I have a TO30 that I am in the process of restoring. Recently I have noticed a popping noise coming from the air cleaner. Spark plugs 1 and 4 are dry, 2 and 3 are wet. Plugs, wires,points all good. Distributor cap looks ok. This has continued to get worse, it is running to bad to use . Any ideas? Thanks

I pulled the valve cover and found two caps off #2and 3. Removed rocker arm assembly, shaft had been installed incorrectly was not getting oil causing exessive wear. Shaft looks ok, can rocker arms be rebushed?

I don't know about referbishing rocker arms. You may have to find some in a salvage yard. The good news is that they are the same rocker arm as the TO-20 and To35. Are you sure about the rocker arm shaft being installed wrong. I ask this because there is a 3/32" locator pin on the 2nd from the rear rocker arm shaft support. If that pin falls out or shears off for some reason it will let the shaft rotate and oil won't be able to flow through the length of the shaft.

The pin was installed in the wrong hole so the shaft was a quarter turn off.

Check the clearances on the valves, make sure they are set correctly.

Pull your plugs and check your spark, should have nice blue, sharp, spark. A weak yellow spark is no good. Your wires, etc. may look good, but the true test is your spark at the plug. Copper core plug wires are best, don't use resitor or carbon core automotive style wires, they are no good on these old fashion ignition systems. See my post just above this one on things to check to help insure good spark.

Popping in the air filter sounds like backfiring. Might be aggravated by a spark problem, but also probably related to valves not seating properly, or timing out of wack.
Have you checked compression on each cylinder? Have you checked timing? I'd recommend spending time on the ignition first, then checking the compression and timing.
