TO 20 Temp Range

What temp should my TO-20 gauge run at? I installed a new temp gauge, it's ranges are higher than the old gauge. Tractor dealer said gauge was correct replacement. The old gauge didn't work so I couldn't compare temp then to now.

The TE20 which has the same engine as the TO20 it says the thermostat should open at 60 deg C.(140F)and be fully open at 93deg C. (199F)

What year is your 20? My 49 model does not have a temp guage,only oil and gen.

Temp Gauges were optional for the TO-20 and TO-30.I guess that the manufacturer didn't think engine temperature was crucial.

The factory thermostat For a TO-20 is 160f.If your new gauge registers cold- normal- or hot,it should register about 2/3 of the way into the normal area. It may go into the high area of normal to the low area of hot before the thermostat opens. It should move back to around 160f. Or 2/3 of the way on the Normal area of the gauge.

If you have a 180oF thermostat in the tractor, it should run very near to 180oF. On a hot day really working it may go to 200-205oF. If you have a 4 psi radiator cap that's working properly it can go higher on a hot day and really working without boiling.(I need my steam tables to do the exact figures and there still packed in a box somewhere.)Hope this helps.
