PTO Pully

Found a good pully for my TO-20. There is no oil in it and wondering what to use.
Has anyone put something on it (looks like thin sheets of paper) to help perserve it ?
Have a drawbar kit that uses (the bolts to mount the pully,) fabrication is about 5/16"---3/8" thick metal. Does anyone know if this added space interfers with proper mounting of pully ?

Hi Ron, For USA (over 50deg F.)you use Gear Oil SAE90 or Engine oil SAE50 in that pulley. The only variation from that is if it is very hot conditions and it is used for long periods and then you use EP oil SAE140 instead. Regarding the drawbar mounting on the same studs, as long as you can get a full nut and lock washer on with it you should have no problems for what you intend to use it for. If you cant get the full nut on the studs you will need longer studs as it will almost certainly come loose.

Mr.John, Thanks, I guess since it uses so little lub. I can change and save for next season.
Think I got some 1/2" longer bolts when I got the one for the draw bar "KIT}-----shouldn't a "KIT" have the mounting bolts with the "KIT" ??? Paid enough $ to have 4 bolts & washers with the "KIT" !!!
I'm woundering about the amount of energy transfering to the pully and eventially a buzz saw.Will have to check the length of cuppling spline---dislike buggering up the spline shaft if I don't have to.

Hi Ron, I thought about the length of the splines too when I was answering the mail last time but we are only talking about 3/8" and the shaft does go in quite a way and I don't think you could use all the power from the engine trough that belt and saw anyway, it is only a small saw really, they do have much bigger ones that work with the tractor. Yes I would have thought that the bolts and nuts and washers would have been with the drawbar to fix it to the tractor. I can see someone using just any old bolts they have hanging about and the drawbar shearing off due to incorrect hardness.

I'd use at least 90W gear lube in it. I've never seen anyone use a preservative on the sheave itself. If memory serves, you have to remove any and all accessories bolted to PTO area including the stay chain brackets to get the gearbox to fit right.

If I get the TO-20 going this Winter , there should be enough power to turn it and warm the stuff up. So I Will not have to change ???
Will see how the belt pulls it before I screw up the pully---sheave====will have to look it up----heard it used dealing with (medium) sized, 30" to 50" ish, steel flate belt pullys. Before I soak it in a little lidseed oil and thinners.
Hate to take off the swinging drawbar dodade if I don't have to, but no big deal if I need all the contact area on the spline.
