On my 35, there is almost a 1/4 turn of play in the steering wheel. Seems like adjusting the sector arms inward only makes the turning more difficult at the steering wheel--and doesn't decrease "slop" . I have attempted procedures from manual-but to no avail. Any tips to take up the slop is appreciated. Thanks Mark

I recently repaired my 1955 TO35 steering. It was very hard to steer and had a lot of play back and forth before moving the steering arms. I found that the bottom bearing that seats in the bottom of the housing was bad and the recirculating ball block bearing had blown apart. I purchased a new shaft, and bearing assembly and installed it. It works fine now. If you take the instrumant panel off and remove the whole shaft by taking out the four bolts that hold it to the steering box you will probably find the problem. I cramped the front wheels far right to bring the ball block to its greatest height. It came out and went in with out a problem.

It would appear that there is more than one type of steering box fitted to these tractors, the one I know adjusts under the steering wheel, tightening the top bearing cone,it has two very thin nuts to lock it in place, remove steering wheel first to get at it. The other one I have not see but there was a question about it, it is now on page 2 and it is "1955 TO35 Steering" maybe worth a look and see if it is like yours. There is the power steering type as well.
