My wife was helping me change an implement and I asked her to start the tractor to raise the drawbar. She turned the key on and cranked the starter with the shifter. The tractor was kicking over, but for whatever reason she thought she should turn the key off while it was cranking. She did this about 3 or 4 times before I realized what she was doing. Now, I have nothing. The battery is fully charged and when I try to crank the starter with the shifter I hear what sounds like that starter whirr, but the engine will not crank. Any idea if something broke regarding the flywheel or starter? I would like to think this is something minor, but I am afraid it could be major. Any thoughts?

Turning the key off while cranking just shuts the ignition off so the tractor won't start. I doubt that caused your problem. I expect your starter drive (Bendix) is worn or the ring gear came off the flywheel. Pull the starter and check the drive. If it's good, look in the hole that the starter goes into and see if you can see the ring gear. It should be sitting on the rim of the flywheel and not cocked.
