Red and grey TEA20?

I was out puttering in the shop, and was looking at working on my TEA20 again. For some reason, the paint caught my eye. There was some red paint showing through on the hood. So, I took my pocket knife and scratched the paint away on the hood, fenders, seat, and front axle struts. Red paint on all of them. This tractor has been repainted once at some point in its lifetime, because it's a two-tone grey with racing stripes. But it looks as if it may have originally had red tinwork and a grey engine and powertrain. There isn't any paint underneath the red. Could this be original colors? It's a 1955 model.

TEA's have always been Grey all over, they did use a red primer is this what is showing through? The only tractors like a TEA that was Red and Grey was the FF30 made in France from about that time but as far as I am aware non were ever exported, the serial number would tell what it is and so would the engine number. The FF30 was more powerful than the TEA as it had a 35/135 87mm engine fitted but otherwise looked identical.On the FF30 the Tinwork was Grey and the engine and castings were Red. Someone has been playing with the paint brush thats all.

Thanks for the pointer, John. I"m still a ways from painting it, but giving it some thought ahead of time. I was thinking of painting it Massey red and silver. It wouldn"t be original, but I think it would look sharper than battleship grey. Would I be too far wrong doing it that way?

You paint it whatever colour suits you. I suppose it does need a little sharpening up now after 50 years or so....lol Originally Harry Ferguson wanted them all painting Black like the original, but they persuaded him against it.
