John UK and TEA front wheels

John,
About a week ago there was a posting that wanted to know about the compatability of the front wheels on a Ford 8N and Ferguson TO20. I added a post a couple a days later but you must have missed it. Were the original wheels on a TEA similar to those that you described and are they compatable with a TEA20. My owners manual suggests that the TEA came with 19 x 4.00 and 16 x 6.00 wheels in one place and 19 x 4.00 and 19 x 6.00 in another. Were the front wheels all 19 inch or was there a 16 inch version also? I have a line on some 19 inch wheels and was interested if these were the only original option. I want to replace the car ties that are there now. I don't know what width the 19" wheels are but I wanted to check with you before I went to go look at them.

Hi Ron, yes I must have missed that one, sorry.
the tractors were available with 400 x 19 tyres or 600 x 16 tyres on the front. All the front wheels that have been fitted to Ferguson's are the same fixing to the tractor. The part about the larger tyres, if you have the 400 x 19 rims and you wish to fit bigger tyres you can do this by fitting 600 x 19 tyres to the same rim. The use of 600 x 19 tyres makes for an easier ride and helps stop sinking in soft ground, they are also good if you have a loader, doing it this way makes it that you only have to buy tyres and tubes and not a pair of rims as well. There were a lot used like this in UK but I prefer 600 x 16 6ply tyres myself. 6 ply are better for a loader as they will not puncture so easily on rocks. 4 ply is the standard tyre. They only did one width of 19 inch rim so the ones you have seen advertised should be what you want. The 400 x 19 wheel was used more for row-crop work and was very popular in UK. I have to admit that the 600 x 16 wheels make the tractor look neater though....John
