Well, I found a nice TO35 to spend my spare time on! However, when looking for what manual to get I noticed there are different ones for the Ferguson 35 and the TO35. My tractor says TO35 on the serial number plate and Ferguson 35 on the hood badge! Is there a difference? I assume I would go by the serial # plate, but you know what they say happens when you assume things! Also, is there a way to free up the clutch plate for the PTO? It is a dual clutch for live PTO, but grinds when I try to engage PTO. If I engage the PTO and then start the tractor it works fine. Can anybody help with this?

Dave-

You've got a TO35. I have one too (a '56)
and the decals also say Ferguson 35 (not to35).
To make matters more confusing, I think they
really are Massey-Harris-Fergusons - at least
that's what some of the castings say. But if
you call it a TO35 when getting parts, you'll
get the right ones.

Didn't you post on this before you bought it?
Glad to hear it was a live PTO/dual clutch.
My PTO lever also grinds a little when I put
it in, but not major & I can do it when the
engine is running. The dual clutch can be adjusted from underneath (take off the inspection cover). I think there's a bunch
of bolts you set clearances on, similar to
setting value lash. The MF factory owner's manual
doesn't give instructions for this, I just checked. You're probably right about just
trying to break the PTO clutch loose first.
Try a big rotary cutter?

Great tractors. I had an 8N before & the
35, particulary with livePTO/hyd, is a lot
more useful. I used a 11 hole drawbar across
the 3PH points for 2 years with the 8N with no
problems. The first time I used it with the TO35, I put a nice kink in it. Guess they
pull/lift considerably harder.
a nice kink in it - guess t

Yes, I did make inquiries on the board before I bought it. Figured you guys knew more about these things than I.(I was right!) Anyway, thanks for the help, I got the clutch adjusted OK. Now just need to free up the plate, it hasn't been used in awhile.Kinda disappointed to hear about the drawbar, I had just purchased one myself!Oh well. Do you know of anyplace that sells replacement sheet metal ie. hood, grill parts, etc?

Dave, The terms Ferguson 35 & TO-35 refer to the same tractor. On the side bar to the left of this page is a heading titled "serial Numbers". Look up yours to see what year of manufacture it is. To engage the PTO selector lever into any of the positions, make sure that you have the clutch pressed all the way down, (Disengaged). Remember, when the clutch is half way up, the drive train to the wheels is disengaged but the PTO is fully engaged, and you must push the clutch pedal all the way down to disengage it. Hope this helps.
