When you have it apart and cleaned out you can repack it, Sparex do a kit part S43231 of wire wool that will service it, the old stuff in there will be rusted away by now.

I think the filter on a 20 is the same as a 30, to remove the screen retainer drill out the 4 spot welds that hold the retainer. The retainer is very easy to remove after the welds are cut if it doesn't move the welds aren't completely cut. Ater removing the retainer the only thing holding the screen in place is crud. Don't try to remove it with one pull, work around from the outside pulling a small amount. Kerosene and compressed air will clean it in a couple of minutes. After it is clean roll it up on a piece of plastic pipe slightly bigger than the center tube in the filter housing and slide it back into place. Reinstall the retainer and drill a hole thru the retainer and center tube and install a set screw to hold the retainer in place. The holes drilled to remove the spot welds will be covered up when you install the oil cup.

I cleaned my TO-30 air cleaner without disassembly. I soaked it in a 5 gallon bucket of lacquer thinner over night. The next day I removed it and poured out the dirty contents into the bucket and let it settle out. I then placed the air cleaner back into the lacquer thinner and repeated the process untill not much dirty stuff came out of the air cleaner. I let it dry and einstalled it on the tractor with fresh oil. I make the oil gets changed regularly and have not had any problems.

Hi Chris Sounds like yours is about like mine was last summer.Heres what i did on my F40. Take the whole unit off the tractor and set it on a bench where you can get at it.When you get the oil bowl off you will find a ring like base under the screen. If you are careful you can get this off without hurting it. Inside is a mesh screen, pull it out and unroll it.I soaked it in mineral spirits at work. When it has soaked for a while, take an air gun and blow it out. You can soak the whole canister in it if you have enough of it.Putting it back together is the tricky part. The mesh is the hardest. I found a lil trick that works great as you have to roll it backup and slide it abck into the canister.Take a spray paint can and roll the mesh around it,you may have to do this several times to get it right. When you do set it on the cone inside, the paint can is the same diamiter as the cone. Slide the mesh off the paint can and over the cone. When you get done you will be an expert at it, ok? Just kidding, but it does work. If you have any questions feel free to email me, ok? Good Luck Lester
