Hi! I've been searching for a small tractor for my small acreage farm. I found a 1955 TO35 in good shape for $1500.00 , but am not really familiar with Fergusons. Is it basically just an 8N? What are the differences? It has a Continental engine in it, are parts available? Does it have live PTO? Help me out guys, it seems like a good deal but I don't want to end up with an orphan tractor!

buy the tractor 32hp great for small farm i have 1958 delux it has live power the special did not have live power i payed 3000 for mine love it parts are avalable

Just recently acquired a ferguson TO-35. Am VERY happy with it! The Ferguson is quite an empowering tool. Parts are easy to get. The engine has just been rebuilt and she is now WORKING HARD.

It's a good deal, and if the tractor is in even halfway good shape, buy it. However, the one thing you can't get for these tractors is complete new engines. You can rebuild them, but you can't find a complete bolt in engine. The 35 if it is the Deluxe version in good shape typically goes for two or even sometimes three times the price you are paying. A professional engine rebuild might run $1500, so that makes me infer the seller might think it needs major engine work. If not, jump on it. If so, you still might want it.

No orphan there! Great tractor, great price!

Lots of parts around, and probably more info on the Massey board on this site.

The live PTO and 3 point are the main differences from the 8N. More power too. Different parts, of course.

Good luck, get a manual(also available on this site!), and ask anything you like - you'll always get solid info here.

The Continental engine is an overhead valve unit, while the 8n is of a flathead design. The TO35 has about 35 horses while the ford has about 20. The TO35 of 1955, (of which I own one), was offered as a Standard model which had a single stage clutch and as a Deluxe model which had a dual stage clutch. To check, start tractor and shift pto into "engine PTO" mode, let up half way on clutch and the pto shaft should turn. Let clutch up all the way and tractor should move, assuming it is in gear. Another advantage over the 8n is the "high/low" planetary speed reducer which gives the Fergie 6 forward and 2 reverse speeds as opposed to the 8n's 4 forward and 1 reverse. $1500 is a heck of a good price if the tractor is in good condition.
