Stuck differential lock pedal on MF 165

I just got a 1974 MF 165. The pedal for the differential lock was down when I got it. By "down" I mean that if you stepped on it it would not go down further. I could not pull it up by hand. I got a crow bar under it and it did pry back up an inch or two. It moves back and forth with effort. I think it is just rust in the linkage, have not followed it back to try to limber up yet. Just wonder if any damage was done to the diff lock. I used to have a 180 and the differential lock would pop out if you hit either brake. I assume the same would be true for this but wonder if the lack of free travel on the pedal was harmful.

There was two different differential lock setups used on the MF165 The round axles and the square axle are different. They both have a shaft that goes through the axle housing in to the sliding fork that applies them those shafts are real bad about getting corroded and binding up if they are not used on a regular basis. Sometimes the only way to free them up is remove the axle housing and disassembling them to clean them up There really is not much danger in tearing one of them up the way they are made. If they are hang in you can not turn very easy. they try to go straight when the wheels are turned
