I have also seen the link between the piston and the 3 pt arms break. This is still not a hard fix.

Most likely the Control Valve has stuck, if you can lift the link arms easily by hand then the cross-shaft hasn't seized up, the Control Valve you should be able to free off without too much trouble. Run the PTO (lever on l/h side below seat, in rearward position) and listen for any rattling noises, with no load there shouldn't be any noise, if there is noise it could be the pump has broken up, not often it happens but it could do. It could be a good point to bargain about.

To free the Control Valve, remove one of the round side covers and look inside, you will see a long 2 legged fork running down from the top, the bottom end is attached to the Control Valve in the Pump below the oil, just move the fork gently back and forward with the PTO in gear and the engine running, KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT OF THE OIL...this should free the valve...you don't take the top cover off before you find out what is wrong and not to free the valve.!!!!! You should not need any parts as it is only stuck. Wait and see what you find before jumping in with all kinds of parts...most parts are available for a Pump if needed and you can get used ones. If you need more info about this, email me at:-
fergusontractors (at) tiscali.co.uk and tell me what you need to know and what you have found or done.

Well I am the owner of a nice TO-30!I gotta get this #-pt going! The first thing Inoticed is the tranny oil was to the top of the dipstick! It is a light brown color'and doesnt look right!Ipulled the round cover off on the right sideand about 2 gals of oil came out.I had the tractor runing pto on and tried to free the controle valve. no luck! the 3-pt conrole arm is all the way back and when you push it forward it pops back!I know there was to much oil! What do I do ! HELP!! THANKS

If the oil hasn't been changed for some time it will be that colour, this could also have some effect on the Control Valve sticking. You need to change the oil as soon as you get the valve free. Little oil should come out if the level is correct and the bottom screw is replaced. When you say the Control "arm" do you mean the Control Fork that hangs down from the top and goes down into the oil, that will pop back if you push it in the wrong place as there is a spring in the middle of it holding it in place. Stop the engine and follow the Fork down into the oil and you will feel a "bar" running between the two legs of the Control Fork, right at the end, this is attached directly to the Control Valve, try moving the valve gently in and out of the Pump by holding the "bar", see if that frees it. If it doesn't work free then email me at:- fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
and I will send you written instructions and pictures on what to do next.
