Identification ?TO-20 or TO-30?

Hello Gang, Been a while. I restored a TEA-20 a few years back for a friend. What fun. Now another friend asked me to figure or what his tractor is since I have experience with old Real tractors. It looks like a TO-20 to me but he was told it was a TO-30. My understanding the engine has been changed at one point. It looks to be a Continial. But have no idea if it is a Z120 or 129. What would be the tell tale sign that would make it a TO-30? You all where great given your answers on that TEA-20 & I thank you you all that answered back then. Now please learn me on this. Thanks to all who answer.

The dead giveaway for the Z129 on the TO-30 is the external oilfilter on the right hand side of the engine. Also there is a data plate on the left side of the engine below the part line between the head and the block about midway back.

If the engine has been changed you lose that point of identification. Look on the right side of the instrument panel. If it has louvers for the air intake, it's a TO-30. If not, it almost certainly is a TO-20. If you have the serial number, tag on the instrument panel underneath the steering wheel, check the numbers against those available to left under "Research and Info".

A TO20 has an engine No. of Z120 and the TO30 is a Z129. The engine Nos are cast on the lower left side by the oil pan, Another way is the position of the coil , vert. is usually a Z120 and horiz is a Z129. Name tag should be by the steering post and the model no. will tell you also. LOL Bob
