Looked at a Ferguson 30 today. Looks very similar to a Ford 8N (I have an 850). Sheet metal is straight but rusty...rear wheels are not the same and rubber is bad...front rims and rubber are OK. Seller says it "runs like a sewing machine" (didn't have key available to run it). Antifreeze is OK..hydraulic fluid is OK.. engine oil is dark but not milky...no noted radiator leaks. He is asking $2350...I thought around $1700. Are either of us in the ballbark as far as price? Thanks for any input.

Bruce, I would not pay $1700 for it because the tires are a big expense, to say nothing of rear wheels. I would pay $1200, after I hear it run and confirm the "sewing machine factor", lol. I paid $1100. for my TO-35 about a year ago. It is well worn, but had like new rear tires, and had an engine problem, which I felt I could take care of. Thanks to Big Dean and a couple others here, I found that all I had to do was tighten the big nut on the camshaft.

Thanks Ron,
I think I am going to let this fellow sit on it for awhile longer...I don't have to have another tractor right now, would just be nice. Amen on the tires...almost $300 for tire, tube and installation for the 850 when one rear started leaking fluid in multiple spots!

Thanks for the input. The tractor has been in the same spot at this guy's place for at least a year. Have dealt with the "key excuse" before...antifreeze and hydraulic fluid were brand new. Everything looks good when it hasn't been run! Just looking for something a bit smaller than the 850 for some "tight squeezes" I have to deal with. Note to SandyB...the tractor is located just outside of Madisonville.
Thanks again.

We're not quite neighbors, but we're close. I live just outside of Oak Ridge. Go to church in Loudon. We live in some beautiful country. Don't tell anybody, they'll all want to move here. Good luck with your tractor dealing. Hope you get what you want and want what you get.

It doesn't run like a sewing machine until you hear it running like a sewing machine. There is a "pain in the butt" factor for getting new rubber and filling the back tires with fluid. These are not like tires on your car. The back ones are hard to handle, especially filled. It is not a tractor until the back tires are filled. You will have no traction to speak of with ground engaging implements. $1700 sounds about right with a high of $1900. $2700 around here is not unheard of, but that's with good tires and everything else in the "right" zone. I sold mine for $2700 but it met all the "right" criteria.

You must hear it running before you even consider it...its the oldest trick not to have the key.

BruceR

Seems plenty high enuf. I would think $17-1800 would be enuf. I grew up with Fergusons. I would pick the Ferguson over an 8N. 8N has a fast reverse. We also had an 850,good solid tractor.

I own a 30. Paid 1500 with a loader Have"nt had to stick anything into it. More horsepower than an "N" series Ford but still does not bring as high of price. I would hear it run, then offer the lower price.
