I had to replace the bearings, o-rings, and oil seals in my TO35 steering manual steering gearbox. The problem I have run into is, that according to the I&T manual there is supposed to be a single punch mark on the lower pitman gear shaft, and 2 punch marks on the upper pitman gear shaft that you line up to correctly align the pitman arms. I can find the 2 punch marks on the upper shaft, but there are no marks at all on the lower shaft. Can anyone tell me what tooth you have to line up with on the lower shaft? By the way grinding out the front axle support rear opening and brazing up the wear gap then inserting a bushing and brazing it in worked great. I also brazed up the wear in the front opening and ground it back out for a snug fit on the pivot pin. Nice and snug now with no slop.

I recently replaced the complete steering shaft and ball block recirculating ball bearings. I cramped the steering all the way to the right. This allowed the shaft to come out and be replaced in the same position as before. I think if you cramp the steering all the way to the right the way I did there will be one tooth of the lower sector shaft engaging the ball block gear because it will be all the way up. The gears on the upper sector shaft should be in the down position and also have only one tooth engaging the lower sector shaft. The pitman arms will be angled in opposite directions, the left one back and the right one forward.
