MF 285 won't move

I have a MF 285 with multispeed transmission. while using yeseterday I shifted from 1st to reverse in low range and now the tractor will not move in any gear. I feel the gears spinning when i depress clutch and shift, but nothing happens when I release clutch.
any ideas of where to start the search? gear train is not "locked" i was able to move freely with another tractor.
all hydraulic pumps are working,as loader and 3pt still working. plenty of fluid in transmission

Remove the right side lift inspection plate and with a mirror look at the drive coupling to the pinion from the transmission output.

It's safer to jack up one wheel to prevent the tractor from suddenly catching and lurching. That could be detremental to your health!

If the pinion is turning then it is likely that either you have a broken axle or more likely the rivets that hold the differential ring gear to the differentail carrier are sheared off. There is a bolt kit to replace the rivets with.

If the ring gear is loose on the carrier you will have to pull the left side axle and trumpet housing to remove the differential carrier etc.
