I have a TO35 with Z134 continental engine. During troubleshooting a fuel supply problem I discovered the carburetor was a Marvel Shebler TSX361. From what I can find out it should have a TSX605. The TSX361 is for a TO20. The tractor seemed to be running fine until I ran into what turned out to be a plugged fuel supply tube in the tank. What effect would this TSX have on my performance and should I replace it?

Thanks guys for the info. It now turns out while overhauling the carb. it has a cracked bottom housing so I am going to have to replace it. It appears either the TSX361 or TSX605 are pretty much the same cost. Which would you recommend I purchase?

Go with the one that is specified... changes might be because of differences in performance (as Jerry said) but just as likely are changes that M-S did for their own design improvement reasons... (e.g., like the old ones being susceptible to cracked bowls, etc.... ) Jim

If I were you, I'd buy the carb ( I believe it's the TSX 605)that was supposed to be on the tractor. There's a reason why they took they trouble to designate another model for the TO-35 and it's probably to be able to develop rated power at full throttle operation. It most likely has the jets sized to maintain closer to optimum fuel to air ratio across the rpm range. Go with that was supposed to be on your machine originally.

Totally negligible effect!!...

Even though your engine has the capability (under full load when you have the throttle plate wide open) of sucking in about 10% more air than a stock TO-20, that will not make any significant difference in the carburetor performance. In fact, there are many TO-20s, and 30s that have been overhauled with the overbore kits that make them 134 ci (same as the Z134) and no carburetor change is necessary....

P.S. I wouldn't worry about it unless I were trying to win points for originality at a tractor show!.... Rebuild parts might be slightly different, but then again, they often cover multiple models....

The displacement on the TO20 (Z120) is 120 cu in and the displacement on the TO-35 's Z134 is 134 cu in. That's 11.6 per cent more theoretical air flow any any given rpm. If the volumetric efficiency is about 80%, that's about 9.3 percent more actual airflow. The difference between the carbs will probably be in the venturi throat area but you may be able to adjust the mixture screw to compensate for the airflow difference. Pull you plugs out an see what they look like. If they have greyish or tan deposits on them and the insulator doen't look like it's overheated (blistered) then the mixture is probably fime and you can use the carb. (You said it was running ine so I'd imagine you'll find no problem with the plugs.)If the plug looks overheated, you'll have to enrich the mixture at both the power jet (big screw) and the idle jet. These engines need to run a little rich to take advantage of "charge cooling" effevts so you'll want to adjust itto the rich end slightly.
Hope this helps you.
