Overrunning Clutch Conversion Unit; How Does it Mount??

I ordered an overrunning clutch for my TO-20 from AGRI SUPPLY and got a conversion unit so I would not have to change the PTO or have the converter spline and clutch sticking out a foot in some ungainly spinning mess. Nice price -$30 but no directions at all. Heres the thing; how do I make the thing stay on as it just spins and wobbles loose. I see the holes for the pin but to put it together seems to bolt it into one solid always spinning shaft. So what am I missing here, how do you pin this thing on the shaft and still get the clutch effect.????? Thanx

I did the same thing and got an overun clutch that goes on the PTO shaft. The one I got mounts on the shaft (which is 1 1/8") and is held by the pin. The shaft that comes off the clutch is 1 3/8. The trouble is the clutch still has a wobble even with the pin holding to the shaft. All I ever plan on doing is running a finish mower, but I am concerned that the wobble will be hard on the PTO shaft and bearing. Has anybody else run up against this?

This is for Kristian: I had the same problem with a clutch unit about 2 yrs old. I got a new clutch and it doesn't wobble. I guess the old one just wore out. Good luck! Tex

Yeah, my coupling didn't come with any instructions either. The roll pin was laying loose in the bottom of the store shelf. Fortunately, I had the presence on mind to grab the pin out of the bottom of the shelf. The roll pin goes into the clutch thru the grease fitting hole, have to take the grease fitting off. I recommend taking both fittings off so you can see what your doing inside the coupling. First time I mounted my overrun coupling I didn't get the roll pin in far enough to clear the outer housing. My brush hog was pushing me all over the field until the end of the pin sheared - off and let the outer housing spin like it is suppose too. Install the grease fittings back into the hole after the pin is installled and pump it full of grease.
If memory serves me right a 5/16 inch punch does a nice job of driving the roll pin in, but a 1/4 punch will work in a pinch.

The kit should have a roll pin in it that just clears the clutch to allow it to spin,If I remember you put the roll pin in one side(may be tapered) and drive it till it just clears the outer part(clutch housing).If you have it right you can turn clutch one way but not the other.The kit should contain a small cap screw for hole on one side of housing and the other hole you put a grease fitting. Thanx for the info. The bag it came in didn't have any pin with it; go figure. It also had 2 grease fittings to further the confusion and of course, no directions whatsoever. Still a god deal though at under $30. I have gotten so used to being pushed by the mower it will take some getting used to.
