Hi Chris, Aaron Ford did a great job detailing the pump removal for a MF65, but thats not how you get the pump out of a TO20. For the TO20, after draining the transmission oil (there are 3 drain plugs), remove the side cover with the transmission dipstick in it and disconnect the linkage from the pumps control valve. The valve has a T at the end where the control linkage connects so all you have to do is spread the two linkage arms apart and slip them off the ends of the T. Next, remove the 4 bolts holding the PTO shaft in and pull the shaft out. The shaft should pull out with minimal force. Once the shaft is out, you can remove the bolts from the pump base and remove it. You can pull the shaft first if it gives you more room to disconnect the linkage.. I did this about 5 years ago, cant remember which I removed first, but the whole process wasnt hard. Dont forget to get a new gasket to install the replacement pump.

Your investing in all those parts and you don't have a Ferguson Shop Manual (~$20-$30) for your TO-20? Maybe you ought to consider getting that and a Parts Manual (~$30). It'll make your life with the TO-20 more enjoyable. Make sure that you get the Ferguson Shop Manual because it has systems descriptions as well as instructions for how to do the job that are fairly complete. When you don't understand the instructions or get stuck, come back here and there are any number of folks that will be willing to help you.

AMEN BROTHER, TELL DA TRUTH, TESTIFY!!! The manual is invaluable. Leave the IT Manual to someone else unless you already know what you are doing and in that case why would you need it? Not much info in the IT.

I am going to base this off my MF65. To pull the pump, first remove the seat and drain the fluid, then remove the two bolt cover under your right testicle. Pull out the standpipe. Unbolt the lift cover and lift it carefully out of the way. Mine is as heavy as one person can manage, perhaps more. Get help, there's sensitive stuff down there that could get damaged. Then you should be looking at the driveshaft. Remove the pin and collapse the shaft and remove. Now pull your PTO shaft out the back. Should have four bolts visible, remove these and pull the sway chain plate. Under you will find two allen headed cap screws level with the center of the pTO shaft. This should allow the PTO shaft, bearing, seal and all to be pulled out the rear. Now pull the two locating dowel pins (They are the two small covers mounted on each side of the tractor with two nuts a piece.) They are different so as with everything else, sandwich baggie and label these too. Then pull pump. This is a good time to wipe the belly of all oil and debris left over the years. Be sure to find all little parts previous mechanics have left laying down there. When reinstalling, make sure the control valve is pulled and secured all the way rearward. I can scan and email the page of the MF65 IT manual if you are interested.

Hey Aaron, a question regarding the pump locating dowels..are you sure they should be different sizes? I just removed and reinstalled the pump on my MF50 which should be about the same as the 65. One of my locating dowels was shorter than the other and looked welded (obvious it was repaired) I finally got a parts book and it showed that there are 2 dowels needed with the same part number, so it appeared they should be the same. I called a salvage yard and got a good replacement sent to me. They didnt think they should be different either and the replacement matched my one good dowel. I only ask because you stated they are different (on the 65), and until I got my parts book I wasnt sure if they should be the same or different sizes. What do you think?

Thanks, Dan
