i had a thought today while going through all my hydraulic pumps since the one in my to-20 is toast and the housing cracked so a rebuild wont work. untill i find a replacement can i mount a front pump run lines into the right hand cover plate and tap into the controls for the 3 point? will this work or is it a fun dream

Yes it is possible that it would work, the only thing that would stop you is the position the cracks are in the Pump body as they could let any pressure through. So to be sure say No.

I doubt that you can tap an external pump into the lift cover without plugging the output from the original pump. Oherwise the external pump fluid will backflow through the original pump and not pressurize the lift cylinder.

I'd probably go for original (I am a purist) but you could probably put something together yourself from new or used parts that will do what you suggest. If you want new, Zane Sherman sells this complete "live" kit for Ford and Ferguson... calls it the "Live Thang". For more info... See link...
