TO-35 Manufacture Date

If I had the serial number on this tractor it would be a piece of cake to find out the manufacture date. That's the trouble. I don't have the plate. The castings, trans, rear end and axle trumpets, have MHF in them so I'm figuring it's in the "transission period". Is there any other way I can narrow down when this Fergy was made? Sheet metal is the rounded variety and has the Ferguson emblem on the front end. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Hi! All.

I have a UK Ferguson and Harry put the production date on the right side of the rear end housing just in front of the inspection hole with the dipstick in it. It"s on a plate that is cast in. Mine says 5-4-5. I take this as 5th day 4th month 1955. Makes sense as mine is a 55. John in the UK or Paul in the US could probably lend more to this. Have a good one.

Maybe mine is 29th day of September, 1958. Does anyone know when they stopped making TO-35s and started making MF-35?

The last TO-35s were produced in 1960, the same year they changed the name to MF 35. So you will fine both with 1960 build dates.

Not that matters. The engine was replaced with possibly the last, new, Continental Z134 engine in America about 6 or 7 years ago. The engine had about 20 hours on it when I acquired it...soo the engine # is no help. There are some cast in numbers on the rear end housing. They appear as 29 9 8. This is right below the part number for the rear end. Does anyone know if this is a date code? If I don't find out the year, I don't think I'll die...at least not from this. Mainly just curious has how old the Fergy is. It is a DeLuxe. Two stage clutch and all the normal Fergy wonderfulness.

from that date it must be 29th September 1958 which could be right as they changed colours late 1958. Usually after the castings were made the average time before they were used and built into a tractor was about 4 weeks. In the UK they sometimes stamped the number in the rear gutter on the fuel tank or alongside the large filler plug on top of the transmission, not all tractors had this though.

'Nother question. When did it cease to be Ferguson and become MasseyFerguson? I know it's right in this time frame, but I forget what year.

All I have is that "they changed to Red and Grey in 1957 in UK and after 1958 they changed to Red and Grey in US." No serial number given for US tractors only UK was listed at the changeover point

I bought some property. It came with a MF 35 tractor. How do I determine the year model. It's a gas model and has Z134 on the data plate and says it was made in Mi.. Thanks, Ken
