I just received a Sparex catalogue in the mail yesterday, chocked full of parts available. It's cool. Thanks to Don Feekes for getting it to us.

Got mine today - much appreciated. What's the big secret about prices, though? A catalogue without prices seems to me to be a mark of 'shadyness' on the vendor's part. Why not provide the prices so we, the consumer, can compare and make an educated, informed decision before we buy? Sure I can call, but that's not the point. Put your cards on the table, SPAREX, and let us know what you charge. A couple of sheets of paper with part#s and $$, inserted in the catalogue would be cheap, readily amendable and of use to us, your patrons.

Chuck,

The reason there are no prices is that Sparex will not sell you any parts. They only sell to distributors. The distributor sets the price he wants to sell at. Thus, Sparex dosn't know the retail price to even print. When you call you are calling to find a local dealer, not a price.

Think of it as getting a parts book for your car from FORD, GM, or Toyota. You now know the part number but you still must go to the PEP boys, autozone, or NAPA to get it.

If you knew how little wholesale costs really were it would knock you socks off. I would not be supprized if the dealers were marking up by 5 to 10 times or more. Prime example... I stopped by the MF Dealer Big Dean worked for to get a replacement key... They wanted $4.50 each. Had a whole drawer full of them... These stamped keys don't cost more than $0.02 to make.

Are you talking wholesale as in how much money Sparex is making, or how much the dealers are making who buy from Sparex?

I have no specific data for Sparex, however, based on my knowledge of manufacturing it would not suprize me if actual cost to manufacture were $1.00/ part wholesale price would be $10.00 and consumer cost anywhere from $30 to $100.00. a part.

John(UK) doesn't say if the Sparex-Belgium site includes parts for all US-produced Ferguson tractors.

The catalog produced for FENA members does.

Sparex USA still needs to be contacted by the catalog or on-line user to find the name of the nearest dealer(s) in North America.

I will be in touch with Sparex - USA to see if additional copies of the catalog can be made available to new FENA members. They may have to print up a second run.

I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, the catalog may be useful.

But on the other hand, It seems to me that this amounts to free advertising for the company and/or promotion of a specific company by FENA.

Is FENA going to sell their mailing list to ANYONE who wells Ferguson related stuff?

Seems to be a bad precedenthas been set.

I just received my catalog today. It was a nice surprise and is appreciated. I called their number, talked to a real friendly person and found where the local dealers are located.

I have been using that catalogue for sometime now and use it to quote Sparex part numbers.Sparex sent me a stack of them some time ago that I have been sending out over here.BUT there is an on-line copy of this catalogue, in English on the Belgian site of Sparex, the URL is as below.

Hi,

Only the TE 20 and Fordson Major catalog is open on this site, the rest of the tractor replacement part catalogs is for dealers only. You would need a username and password to view them.
I would say good quality parts... :-) Right John ?

Yes not bad parts Bill, they are getting better at it now, they have a big Massey-Ferguson range in addition to this one. It was only the TE20 parts list that I was saying was online there, I didn't look for anything else. I use the main one in the UK for my searches I have a password for that from Sparex.

I hope to get mine too soon. It seems I have got the opportunity to sell Sparex in northern part of Norway. Half of the country in size, but only 10% of the population, a little more maybe.

We at FENA are blessed to have such a person as Paul for our Furrows editor. He has the Go Ahead attitude and ambition to take on projects like organizing the Sparex catalog and editing the Ferguson Furrows, both of which he has spent many hours on in the past 5 years.
