Hello all I am new here, in fact I just bought my first Ferguson today. It is a '49 TO-20 that I found at a tractor junkyard. The guy said he has had it over a year and couldn't remember anything about it but his intention was to part it out. So I bought it and brought it home. I put in a battery and gas and it fired right up and sounded good with no smoke. I then filled the radiator with antifreeze, but to my dismay it then began smoking and gray goop leaked from the flywheel area (probaly through rear main seal). The antifreeze was getting into the crankcase. So I shut it down and drained the coolant. Anybody have any suggestions??? Ken (MI)

gone...,
Sounds like you picked-up an abused TO. Like Roy said, cracked block or head, leaky piston O-ring, or if your lucky, just a bad head gasket.

Get yourself a service manual, you can order them off this site. Your going to need to tear into your TO a bit too find the exact problem. I'd recommend dropping the oil pan first, wipe down the inside of the crankcase with a rag, let it sit overnight with antifreeze in the engine, then look up at the top of the c.case the next day to see if you can ID where antifreeze is coming from.

cracked head , cracked block , or hole in cylinder liner.. Most are repairable
