Overruning clutch for TO-30

DOES A TO-30 NEED A OVERRUNNING CLUTCH ON THE PTO? MY 8N HAD ONE AND I THOUGHT THE FERGIE HAD ONE ON IT, BUT TODAY I NOTICED IT IS JUST ONE PIECE AND WON'T SPIN IN MY HAND. I ASSUME THAT SINCE THE FERGIE DOES NOT HAVE LIVE PTO THE ROTARY MOWER COULD BACKFEED THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE CLUTCH IS IN JUST LIKE IT WOULD ON AN 8N. IS THIS TRUE? IF SO, HOW BAD A PROBLEM IS IT? I WAS PLANNING ON BRUSH HOGGING ON SATURDAY AND I MAY NOT GET THE CHANCE TO PICK ONE UP BEFORE THEN. WOULD IT BE THE SAME ONE THAT WOULD WORK ON AN N? THERE IS A NEW HOLLAND PLACE LOCAL, AND MAYBE I CAN PICK ONE UP. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE INPUT. VA.

you said it wont spin if it looks like the one on the ford. maybe the rool pins are poped out and are holding it did some one maybe put a bolt through the hole the over riding clutch has to be mounted with 2 roll pins so the out side part can spin the out side and inside cant be bolted dowen together.

VA,
The same Over Running Coupling that you used on your 8N will fit your Fergie, unless the PTO shaft has been changed to the 1 3/8" size. You'll need it to hook up anything else you want to run with the PTO.
Don't brushog without one...it ain't anywhere near safe.

Well, VA, if you have as much brush in your pasture and as poor brakes on your tractor as I have on my TE-20, the overrun clutch is the best friend your lights and radiator ever had! Any dealer probably has the clutch -- I paid about $50. Be sure to get the right size! You are right about the transmission/PTO link: if the blades are turning and the tranny is in gear, your tractor will continue moving, even with the clutch in. Brakes may help some, but the momentum of the blades is very powerful. Be safe! Tex
