I just got a to35 gas that backfires (pops) every 10 seconds or so. Yhe guy I got it from thinks it is a valve spring. Is there a thread on here that shows how to remove the head with out removing the engine?

You don't have to take a head off to change a valve spring. Just make sure the piston of the cyl you're working on is at TDC so you don't drop the valve in, then either hold valve up with a tool or compressed air whilst you change the spring.

Removing the head is very simple. Just take of the gas tank and the valve cover. The head just unbolts.
It takes about 15 minutes.

Thanks, sounds easy and I can't wait until this weekend to get my hands dirty. Does it sound like it could be a broken valve spring? Is there a better head gasket out there and should I use a sealer also? Thanks Max from KC

No need to take the head off as Gerard says. Make sure that the clearances on the valves are correct and that one of the caps on one of the valve stems hasn't come off.
