Recently rebuilt the engine and it ran great. Now it sporadicly spits and sputters like it is running out of gas. Pulled fuel line off carb and seems to have goodgas flowing. Checked timing and points, all looks good. Not sure what to do. Always starts right up but will start sputtering and then usually will die. Any ideas? Main jet?

Are you junp starting the tractor? Had the same problem with mine, it was not charging and would run great after I jumped it, until the battery went dead again

Did you check your spark? Gotta' be nice, bluish, and fat. Orange or yellow is not good. What condition is your distributor? Open it up, crank the engine til the points are closed and then push on the side of the distributor shaft while watching your points. If they show some motion or actually open, then the distributor shaft and /or bushing are worn and thus the distributor needs rebuilding.
Your power jet should be open 1 to 1-1/4 turns. Did you check the "secret filter" in the carb inlet elbow? Also make sure that the vent hole in the fuel cap is clear. There should be a plug in the bottom of your carb. Holding a container under the carb to catch the gas, remove this plug and make sure you have a continous gushing flow of fuel. If you don't get a continuous gush and your "secret filter" is clear, since you said the fuel line up to carb was OK, I'd suspect that the float is sticking or there is some restriction in the float valve area.

You already have good advise. Here is what I do when I have the same problem.
If I have a wrench with me I will pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the float bowl to check fuel flow to into the carb. If I have good flow then I replace the plug and cross 2 plug wires, probably 3 and 4 and rev it up a few time to get it to back fire thru the carb. and many times it is fixed.
