Can anyone tell me what the function of the "Governor Compensator Spring" is? The one on my TO30 is broken, and it's just dangling there at the end of the linkage, but the engine seems to be operating fine. Where is the other end of the spring supposed to attach? Thanks.

I don't have my manual with me but I assume you are talking about the spring that attaches to a short pivot arm near the radiator end of the throttle shaft. If so the other end attaches to a small hole on the water neck on the engine that the top radiator hose attaches to. At least thats where it is on my 20.
If so I believe that its purpose is to balance against the tension of the spring that connects the throttle linkage to the governor arm.
I would assume that if you friction disc is tight enough you wouldn't notice any difference but if it were a little loose your throttle would creep on its own.
