TO-30 lift problem

After lifting anything with my TO-30 it immediately returns to the groung as soon as the clutch is depressed even though the lift lever is still in the full up position. What is the most likely problem and where is that part located.

You need to find the location of the leak first before you do any stripping down, once you strip it you will not find the leak. If you remove one of the round port covers below the seat with the PTO in gear, an implement on the hydraulics and the lever in lift position.Then look inside and see if there are any leaks from the top, right above the port, look towards the back if it leaks there, it is Rings/piston or ram cyl. or maybe all three. If it leaks towards the front it will be a gasket or "O" ring, either under ram cylinder or on the stack pipe up the right front side. if there are no leaks from the top then it could be in the bottom around the pump, so you have to try to locate the oil swirling around at the leak point, once you find that then it can be repaired. The oil will be under quite high pressure so you should be able to see the leak, there is always oil movement in there because of the Pump.

You can waste an awful lot of time and money guessing where the leak is, you need to know for certain where it is so you can repair it.DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS INSIDE IF THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. Do not remove the hydraulic top cover or drop the pump out unless you know what you are doing or you may break something.

First check your oil in the rear make sure there is no water in it. It could just need some fresh oil. If that's not it there is an hydraulic cylinder with a piston under your seat. You might be able to just get a set of rings for the piston and fix your problem. If it was me and your oil is good, I would order a cylinder and piston with rings and just swap it out. It's about a half a day job and you will need some one to help you set it in place. I had the same problem with my TO-30, I tried several things to correct it but was not happy till I got a new cylinder and piston set. I use NAPA mineral oil in mine with no problem and it cost about half of what the MF place wanted for theres.
