TO 20 loader

I recently purchased a TO20 with a Sears Roebuck
loader. Any ideas on what the original color of the loader was? Someone has repainted the tractor ford red and grey and the loader red. I know sears
used to sell farm equipment but I never knew they sold loaders although my brother had a sears manure spreader. I'm replacing the rear axle seals
on the 20 and I found an extra seal inboard of the bearings which is not shown in the parts book.
Any info on that?

Can't help you with the loader.
The extra seal you are looking at sounds like it is probably a sure seal. The sure seal is an aftermarket seal used on TO-20's and 9N's which didn't have the extra internal seal like the TO-30 and 8N's(I think).
The sure seal is a lot easier to install than replacing the original axle seal, which involves chiseling off the collar on the axle retainer to get at the original seal. Sure seals have been around for a loooong time and pretty common.

If your sure seal wasn't leaking, you would be fine to let it be. If it was leaking, you can pry it off and install another, or go ahead and replace the original seal. The sure seal prevents axle oil from lubing the bearing, so you should pack the bearing with grease best you can if you replace the sure seal.

Thanks for the info on the sure seal. Both seals were leaking real bad so I replaced only the outer seal as I didn"t have a ready source for the extra seal. I didn"t have a problem with the bearing retainer ring but it took 18 tons pressure to slide the bearings off the shaft. Makes me wonder if the ring is necessary.

I've heard pressing off the bearings was a heavy duty job. Sounds like you have the equipment for it. I don't... so I'm a sure seal guy.. installed them about a year back. Hopefully you removed the old sure seals, you certainly don't need them with new oil seals. If you left them on, it's not a big deal either.

I believe the 30 has an inner and an outer seal in the axles, but the 20 only has one. So your extra seal is perplexing....
