I took appart the ferguson today  found 2 cracks in the head on the ends - probally weldable..... . The valvetrain is about garbage - guides are toast- some of the valves are good, and the springs should be savable I'll prolly just replace it all in the end.

These cracks are rather common for engines that have overheated. They can be repaired using furnace brazing and remachining the block and head. You can buy a remanufactured block and head or have yours redone( it might take a wait to get yours redone.) but it'll run like new. If you don't want to do all the work your self, a remanufactured engine is about $1500 plus shipping, exchange. Good Luck.

The block so far has a crack between every cylinder..... But its all been rebuilt once leaks and all.... Thats prolly why the tractor was traded in 15 years ago or so

Now to fix it.... It will be intresting too see how bad around the bottom of the sleaves is cracked.

Matt, My TO has cracks just like these between all the cylinders when I rebuilt it a couple years back. I drilled holes thru each rib below the deck, and installed small nut & bolt with big washers to try to stabilize any movement. Then I used metal re-inforced epoxy on both sides to build up the ribs as much as possible, but still allow the sleeves to slide in. I used that copper head gasket sealant stuff when I bolted down the head. I ran a can of block sealer thru the engine 1st thing when I started it up after the rebuild.(definitely a poor man's fix)

No leaks after 2 years of bush hogging and pretty hard service. I don't baby it. No water in the oil, or oil in the water.

Sorry, I have no words of wisdom for that head. Keep your eyes open on Ebay, I see Fergy parts on there all the time.

George

Heres something intresting - tractor ran great on no air.

The inlet for the air cleaner was almost blocked off.

I cleaned the head today - It might be fixable - I'll have to do some asking if it can be just welded since its just 2 corners. Could always just weld the top and sides and just run it :D It prolly ran like that for 20 years or so.

Found another head for $260 if I choose too go that route - might as well if I dont feel its 100% usable later on since it will be ported - trying for that extra 10hp :D
