hi, ive tried so many times to get my TED 20 started , all to no avail. iv checked the ignition system and do have a good battery, my fuel system is somewhat ok, but yet still it does not want to fire up.

i tired it again today (17/11/05), the weather was quite cold. Is there a chance that the exhuast manafold needs to be warm in order to start it easily? The tractor ran when i aquired it only a couple of months ago and it started very easily

I think you will most likely find that you have some TVO left in the carb from last time you used it. When you are finished using the tractor you should turn off the fuel and let it run out till it starts spluttering and then turn it on to petrol and let it run a few minutes so you know that you have cleared all the TVO from the carb. Then turn the fuel off when you park the tractor. As it is now, turn the petrol on and open the drain on the carb, let this run and allow some to run on your finger, you can smell if it is petrol or TVO from this, also your finger will be cold from the petrol evaporating. Once you are certain that you only have petrol in the Carb, then you can try to start the engine again, don't over use the choke in this, if you find that it is dripping petrol from under the carb after you try to start, the open the throttle wide and push the choke inward so that it is OFF and try to start again. If after draining the carb you have doubts about the petrol actually being petrol and not a mixture of petrol and TVO you could have a leak between the two tanks so that it is mixing...you could also have some bad petrol if it has been standing around for a while, so try some fresh petrol in a completely empty tank.

sorry, also i dont have a deflection plate on the manafold yet, do you seriously sugest me getting one for my para/TVO?

I take it you mean the Aluminium Manifold cover, this is to keep the air from cooling the manifold and you do really need one for it to run satisfactorily. You should not turn to TVO before the Temperature gauge reaches the green sector or it will start to oil plugs and cause oil dilution. If it does not get up to the working temperature quickly you need to change the thermostat for one with a setting of 95 deg C fully open, if there are rusty water marks around the radiator filler cap,this will point to a pressure leak and that also needs to be changed as it will not get to working temperature with a pressure leak. the cap should have a working pressure of 4lbs.psi. The plugs for this engine should be Champion N21 set to .030" to .035" points should be .012"
