TO30 lift

When the lift is in the up position and you mash in the clutch, the lift falls back down. I would welcome any suggestions as how to fix this problem.

On the 8N Fords (similar design), the
manual suggested you could see where the
leak was if you pulled off the inspection
cover on the side of the trans case, lifted a heavy implement, then let it leak down while you look. I don't know
if its the same situation on the TO30s;
my 35 the level seems pretty high to
be able to see anything down at the pump/
relief valve. By the way, on the Fords
the leakdown was often the relief valves rather than a worn lift piston bore - which
most of us found out after we'd rebuilt
the piston/bore assembly.....

Sounds like you have a very leaky piston in the lift assembly or a sticking relief valve in the hydraulic pump. If its the piston you need to pull the lift assembly which is the cover under the seat. If its the relief valve you need to pull the pump assembly which is the cover on the bottom of the tractor directly below the lift assembly cover. I think there is a way to check before doing major work but I'm not sure how. If you check the archives both in this group and in the 8N ford group you may find a check out procedure provided by Zane Sherman. In any case your going to need a shop manual.
