I guess I must have an oddball overbore in my engine. Standard is 3.250 and all of the overbore kits that I have found are 3.375. So mine, I guess would be a .050 overbore. I haven't been able to find any markings on the pistons to indicate that it would be overbore. Any information would be greatly apreciated.

Gentlemen,
Thank, you for all of the comments. I talked with the parts man at Massey Ferguson. He told me that the standard size bore is 3- 5/16" and the over bore is 3-3/8". Although the sleeve measured 3.30 with my dial caliper and the digital caliper at the NAPA store that is about .0125" short of 3.3125 that would make 3 5/16". The parts guy at MF assured me that there was no .050 overbore so I used my machinists scale to measure the sleeve again. What do you know!!! It came out to be very close to 3 5/16". Close enough that a new sleeve and piston should work fine.

Best Regards,

Mike M.

Various car engines used these pistons (I've just bored a set of TE liners to 3.25) - might be worth trying piston specialists. Could look up the vehicles using these pistons for you if you want.

Mike,
I just saw your post below also. Sounds like your seeing ~3.300" sleeve ID and ~3.290" piston OD?
I've only rebuilt one Continental engine so I am not be a super expert here, so dismiss an much of this post as you see fit. I recall going thru the same measuring routine when I re-built my TO. I had to go buy a new, good micrometer because I was getting numbers that didn't make sense. I'd recommend checking your micrometer to make sure it's right, and repeatable, then re-measure. Turn your piston a quarter turn and measure again. Measure the sleeve in several spots and several directions to make sure your getting good numbers. Worn sleeves seem to be the hardest thing to get repeatable numbers because they wear uneven. The manual say to replace the piston and sleeve together, probably for that reason.

If you are still getting the same numbers, you will probably run just fine if you installed a new sleeve & piston. Pick either the overbore or standard, whichever is closest to the other sleeve ID's. I've heard several guys say they have done that sort of thing without problems. It's been a couple years since I looked at that sort of thing, I'm thinking a sleeve/piston runs ~$50? You don't need to pull the engine or drop the crank to pull a sleeve.

George

If yor pistons are 3.250 that is the size of the Z129 stock from the factory piston when tractor was new. The Z129 and Z134 use the same overbore piston and sleeve. I would go right to MF and see if they could come up with one 3.250 piston.
