I'm pretty much a newbie on this board. I'm looking a a TO-30. The owner says is a 53, new tires all around, new repro rims on the back (fluid) good tight steering, and runs good. Back fenders are junk and the 3-point adjuster is welded in place. He's asking 1750 for it. Seems fair to me, what do you think? We had one in the 60's and I'd like to have one again. Hoping someone will talk me into it.

It sounds like a fair price assuming all else is in good working order. Check the rear axel seals (look for fluid running out the drums), check compression if possible, look for signs of coolant in the oil, make sure it reaches operating temp without overheating, check the pto shaft seal. If any is wrong, pass it up or drop the price. I would not get too concerned about electrical issues, paint, fluid replacements, ignition, since I would automatically replace all of this once purchased.

Thanks to all for the info. He's been mowing with this tractor(bush hogging) this summer so its in good operating order. He has redone his dads 8N ford so he decided to sell the Fergie. I'll be sure to check all the things suggested. Can that pto seal be put in without taking it the pto out? If I remember correctly, there's a plate on the back with the seal in it, am I right?

Yes, there are 4 bolts holding the plate/shaft in. Undo the 4 bolts and shaft should pull right out. Take the shaft to a dealer and they will press a new bearing/seal in if needed.

Price would be about right. I always figured I would have to do a tuneup and oil and antifreeze change when I would buy something used.And mabe an in frame overhaul.

Price sounds pretty good. Look for any water in the oil and any other leaks around. You can find new fenders and three point positioner here on the parts page for a reasonable price. Good luck, I have a TO30 and really enjoy it.
