Need to change the engine oil for my TO-30.What type is best?

I use 10W40 in all my gas powered equipment but 10W30 oil to the latest API classification for automobiles will do. The owners manual called for 30W and said that non-detergent was OK but 30 W HD (detergent oil) was better. I would strongly recommend that whatever you do, don't use a non-detergent oil. The modern oils are sooooo much better than anything that was available in the mid-50's when these tractors were designed. If you live in an extremely cold winter climate, 10W30 will work well for you. If your engine is w bit worn theor the summer temps are hot, 10w40 is a good bet. Some folks use 15W40 diesel spec oil in all there gas equipment and this is good too. I tried it it my TO-30 but our Western Montana temperatures make cold stating in winter a bit more difficult so I went back to 10W40.

I use 10/30 motor oil.The cheapesst I can find.I believe it is more important to change oil 25 hrs.Than to buy expensive oil and go longer between changes.
