I recently bought a pretty nice TO-30 and haven't had the opportunity to get an owner's manual yet, so..... .. what type of oil does Harry recommend for the motor and what type for the transmission? Thanks!

Depends on what temperature your tractor operates in. You can use a Multi-grade oil in the engine similar to what you would use in your gas engined truck or car, maybe slightly heavier grade if you use it hard. The Hydraulics called for GL1 90W straight mineral oil originally, but you can use 15W-30 Multi-grade now as it does have advantages that is isn't as thick and heavy at low temperatures so the hydraulics will work better and you can use this all the year round instead of changing it for summer and winter.

The owners manual doesn't really give an engine oil recommendation. It says you can use 30W non detergent oil but that 30W HD (detergent oil)holds dirt in suspension and is better, etc. The modern oils are sooooo much better than what was available when these tractors were designed you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. I know there are a lot of people who do not agree with me but the multi-vis oils to the latest API classification for automobiles are as good as you can get. I use 10W40 in my gas tractor and 15W40 Delo 400 in my diesel. Nothing wrong with 30W HD or 10W30 either. I don't believe the brand name has any significance, just make sureyour using the lates API classification.
For the trans/hydraulic oil, 90W(in summmer) API GL 1 classification mineral oil is specified for this application. 80W GL-1 mineral oil in winter.
