Sharman and TO-30 tranny seals

Howdy, all.
I'm waiting for parts to come in and for the machine shop to finish up on the head, but in a week or two I should be putting my TO-30 back together. I have some gear oil in the front of the bellhousing under the Sherman 3-sp and the release fork, which leads me to believe I have a leak at the tranny input or the Sherman input or output. Do I need to pull the Sherman and take a look at all those seals? Also, are there any gaskets that should be replaced in the Sherman aside from the input and output seals?

I haven't got to my Sherman yet, but my understanding is that there is only one shaft seal (Item 26 at the Sherman input). The seal between the Sherman and the Tractor transmission (Item 38)is just a case to case seal and oil can pass (through the bearing) freely between the tractor trans and the Sherman. And although this case seal can leak, it is much less likely to leak than the input shaft seal, so pulling the Sherman is not necessary unless you think this case seal is leaking. Also, there may be some shimming to do if this case seal is changed.

I am not familiar witht he details of the Sherman but I think that checking and replacing seals when you are this point is a prudent thing to do. Nothing worse than putting it all back together and finding out you have to take it all apart again for a couple of cheap seals!

I tend to replace anything that looks halfway questionable, which makes me feel good about my rebuilds but makes my wife wonder how a $500 job cost $1000 in the end. I'd just hate to get it back together only to have to split it again before Spring.
