what is the zane thang for hydraulics on a 9 or 8n these guys are talking about. I really am a 1st time tractor owner and need these things spelled out in the best, or should say, the most elementary way thanks for the help. John T.

John,
The "Zane Thang" is a position controller that allows you to fine-tune the height of your 3 pt hitch, the "Thang" will automatically maintain that height for you so you don't have to keep fiddling with the control lever. It is particularly helpful when using a scraper blade and a rear scoop. I got a Zane Thang back in 2000 for my TO-20. I don't know how I ever managed to control my hitch without it. Money well spent. It installs in <15 minutes, only tools required is a wrench, maybe some piers... a beer is optional, I found that made the install even more enjoyable.

You can build your own position controller if you are so inclined. There are several pic's in the Parts & Pieces to help you build your own. A build-yourself model is probably cheaper, but will take a lot more time to build/install than a "Thang".

George

john
the device gives you position control of your hydraulics,if for instance you want to keep a bushhog at a certain height from the ground ,this will do it ,you just set it and forget it,works great
